A practical application of global education is developing lessons that connect West Michigan with our five sister cities: Omihachiman (Japan), Bielsko-Biala, Poland Perugia, Italy Ga East/West Districts, Ghana and Zapopan, Mexico.
This is a remarkable learning opportunity for students and educators as there are multiple paths of knowledge, skills and abilities that connect Grand Rapids with the world. Most recently, Art Prize 2015 features the work of 25 artists from Japan, hosted at Fredrick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park which is home to the magnificent Japanese Gardens. Nine of the artists are from Shiga Prefecture, Omihachiman. This is a great opportunity to learn about the famous Omni Merchants, the work of the artists, cultural connections and the economic impact of Art Prize, including visitors and artists who travel to Grand Rapids from around the world.
